Moccasin Identifiers

The Moccasin Identifier initiative is a community-driven effort to recognize and honour Indigenous children, families, and identities within shared spaces. Using the symbol of a moccasin—representing connection, journey, and cultural grounding—the initiative invites organizations, schools, and institutions to visibly acknowledge the presence and belonging of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

More than a visual marker, the Moccasin Identifier is a commitment to learning, reflection, and action. It encourages environments where Indigenous perspectives are respected, cultures are celebrated, and systems are responsive to the needs of Indigenous communities. Rooted in truth, relationship-building, and reconciliation, the initiative supports the creation of spaces where Indigenous children feel seen, safe, and valued.
