A Rainy Day Visit: Building Bridges with Mississauga’s of The Credit First Nation

On a rainy spring morning, Catherine, and Donna and I arrived at Mississauga’s of The Credit First Nation (MCFN), umbrellas in hand and spirits high. Despite the wet weather, there was a sense of excitement as we gathered at the Nation, eager for the day’s journey and the connections to come.

We were greeted by Kerri King, Executive Assistant to Chief Sault, whose warmth and hospitality immediately set the tone. Kerri guided us on a thoughtful tour of the MCFN community, sharing stories of the land, its people, and the strength of tradition. Every stop along the way was filled with insights that deepened their appreciation for the Nation’s rich history and vibrant present.

At the heart of the visit was a spirit of collaboration. we discussed exciting plans with MCFN to co-host a Truth & Reconciliation Summit, an event designed to foster understanding, learning, and meaningful action. Nation members will be leading a special cultural learning day, offering hands-on experiences and teachings rooted in their traditions. Together, these events promise to be powerful opportunities for growth and connection.

The day concluded in the company of Chief Sault, where conversation flowed over hot coffee and fresh pastries. The group explored catering options for the upcoming summit, weighing the merits of traditional Indigenous foods against creative fusion offerings. Every detail mattered, reflecting a shared desire to honour the Nation’s culture and create a welcoming space for all.

We left MCFN deeply grateful for the Nation’s generosity, leadership, and commitment to making this learning opportunity possible. We are honoured to work alongside such dedicated partners and look forward to welcoming our community to these important events.

Tickets for the Truth & Reconciliation Summit are limited. Fewer than 75 will be available. We encourage all members to sign up for membership to ensure priority access. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this unique journey of learning and reconciliation.

Thank you, Mississauga’s of The Credit First Nation, for opening your doors and your hearts. We look forward to walking this path together.
