About the event
Join us for our February Membership. This month, we will celebrate Black History Month with our special guests Hon. Dr. Jean Augustine and Emma Asiedu-Akorofi.
Jean Augustine is a trailblazing politician and social activist: elected the first Black female Member of Parliament, appointed the first Black woman in Cabinet, and named the first Fairness Commissioner by the Government of Ontario. Her legacy includes the federal declaration of February as Black History Month, a motion she introduced in 1995.
Emma is dedicated to supporting young women in South Etobicoke and across Canada. Working from within an anti-oppressive, inclusive framework – Emma’s career path has given body to a resume that reflects a deep commitment to celebrating gender equality, empowerment of self-identified females, and youth-based programming.
