Artificial Intelligence is transforming how we work, communicate, hire, evaluate, and make decisions. But what exactly is AI — and how did we get here?

This interactive workshop begins with a clear, accessible understanding of what Artificial Intelligence is (and what it isn’t). Participants will explore the history and evolution of AI — from early rule-based systems to today’s generative tools, building a foundational understanding of how these technologies shape our daily lives and organizational systems.

From there, we examine AI through a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion lens. Technology is not neutral. AI systems are built on data, and data reflects societal patterns , including systemic bias. Together, we will unpack how bias shows up in algorithms, hiring tools, facial recognition, predictive analytics, and generative AI. We’ll explore real-world examples and discuss how inequities can be amplified when DEI is not intentionally embedded into design and implementation.
